Maypro has partnered with LCY to bring its high-potency, free-form, fermented astaxanthin ingredient to the U.S. market.

The ingredient recently went through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s new dietary ingredient notification process and contains a 55% astaxanthin content, offering key advantages in various applications.

The carotenoid, known for its antioxidant properties, is the first carotenoid to be commercialized from LCY’s fermentation platform. It is chemically identical to the astaxanthin found in wild Atlantic salmon, but has no aftertaste or odor.

The high-concentration product can be paired with the company’s in-house encapsulation technologies, and the lack of aftertaste makes it suitable for tablets, gummies, candies, and ready-to-drink mixes where palatability is crucial.

“LCY’s astaxanthin is a true game-changer for the supplement market,” said Abhijit Natu, vice president of sales and marketing at Maypro. “This high concentration and free-form astaxanthin significantly enhances formulation options for manufacturers allowing them to create more effective products with a smaller dose. Plus, LCY’s proprietary astaxanthin has no fishy taste or odor, making it ideal for a variety of applications, including gummies, candies, and beverages.”

“We are pleased to advise that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued LCY a letter of acknowledgement without objection regarding notification of our astaxanthin product as a new dietary ingredient. This letter, the culmination of our team’s diligent work over the last several years, clears the way for us to launch our first product in the USA supplement market.” said Dex Hsu, CEO at LCY. “We are excited to partner with Maypro to introduce our high-potency fermented astaxanthin to manufacturers in the USA and Canada (pending Health Canada approval). We believe it will become a top choice for manufacturers seeking effective and versatile ingredients.”
